A Question

Heya all! So we're up to 42 followers after 3 months and I'm having a hard time judging what interests people the most about this blog. I suspect there's a way to do that programatically, but since all my posts are always on a single page it's not easy to determine which ones have the most viewers as what I'm using now just shows hits to the main page.

Currently I'm posting almost exclusively about either Sorcery & Super Science! or about our Old-School Renaissance stuff. Are you guys (and gals) split about your interests or do you favor one over the other? Should I do more short pieces about gaming in general or gaming theory or some other subjects?

So if you'd take a brief moment and let me know what your main interests are concerning this blog, I'd really appreciate it.

I've been blogging on gaming for about 18 months and I've never been able to understand why one post is popular over another. I did a blog a short while ago about medieval style bathroom accessories and that one went through the roof (over 1000 hits). It was a fill in blog just because I found little knights holding a roll of toilet paper. Then I will do a blog I spent time on and do research and get 50 hits.

Keep on writing what you like and don't worry how many hits you get. And if all else fails do a blog on medieval toilet paper, it'll be a hit!

Ha! One post about medieval toilet paper coming up! Good advice, of course.

I found your blog because of the Tome of Tomes posts. These are the types of posts that I can use to drop into my game and give it more depth.

Thanks for the response, Jimmy. I really like the tome of tomes concept as well. I'll have to think about what types of other things that are similar in drag-n-drop utility for OSR stuff.

I like reading about crazy creativity, and things that make me think. Jeff Rients' blog is a good example, and so is "I Waste the Buddha with my Crossbow." Off the wall stuff is what really gets me going.

If you post blocks of stats for monsters or spells, I'm probably going to give it a pass. I can make up stuff too, thank you. Give me something I haven't thought of yet, you know?

Okedoke. Focus on creativity ala off-the-wall stuff.

I like the stuff with a drag-n-drop utility and always happy to see spell and monster stats too since I have the imagination of an accountant. Especially enjoying the Tome of Tomes feature. Thanks.

Thanks for the comment, austrodavicus. I wish I had the imagination of an accountant - I suspect it pays more than the rpg business. :)

Gonzo always seems to work. I like all of your stuff, so I cannot suggest one thing over another.

As far as posts go; I can plot one out that I think is awesome and all I hear is crickets chirping and then write something off the cuff and get a bunch of comments. And sometimes vice-versa, so I have no idea what would be more popular.

Thanks for the comment, bat!

Hey JG -- What do you enjoy writing about?

jgbrowning said...

Honestly, I've been enjoying what I've been doing so far on the blog. Mostly snippets and small pieces that can be dropped in. I was just wondering about the tastes and preference of the audience. It looks like some like that while some aren't too interested and prefer more gonzo-type writing. That's what I'd expected to hear, but actually hearing it and just thinking that's what's going on are two very different things.

Keep right on doing what you are doing. That is what draws me here...

Glad to hear it, Artbraune!
