The Dark Tower of Arcma in Progress

Working on The Dark Tower of Arcma today and am done with mapping and moving on to layout. Thought I should include the cover. I happy to see #39 in the works - who'd have thought the little Advanced Adventures line would get that far?

Advanced Adventures #39: The Dark Tower of Arcma (6-10)

Been a while since I've done any mapping-related work for an Advanced Adventure and glad to be starting up the mapping of the three levels of The Dark Tower of Arcma, by Joseph A. Mohr. In this one there's a tower that pops up every once in a while, bringing strange monsters to the lands around it. The PCs are, of course, expected to go investigate. It's a real old-school style module that's heavy on the traps, tricks, and riddles, and may prove to be the grave of unready explorers. If you enjoyed Joseph's prior Advanced Adventure Under Ruined Onm you'll definitely want to check this one out as they're in a similar vein.

Oh, and on my music box today is Zep's Physical Graffiti. An album that I hadn't purchased until late last year for some reason. Unsurprisingly, it's quite good. Duh!

The Origin of Bard College Names?

With a bit of research I recently stumbled upon this information from an article in The Dublin University Magazine (Vol 67) called “Laws of the Ancient Irish” from way back in 1866. (Link goes to a google book, the text below is on page 5 left column.)

The Ollamh's memory was enriched with his seven times fifty stories; the Anruth's with thrice fifty and half fifty; the Cli remembered eighty, the Cana sixty, the Dos fiftv. the Mac Fuirmidh forty, the Fochiuc thirty, and the Drisac twenty. The poor Taman could only tell ten, and the Ollaire of still worse memory soon wearied his hearers; he had only seven.

This also hints that perhaps there are three possible new instruments of the bards awaiting discovery for the Drisac, Taman, the the Ollaire. I’d make them wind or percussion instruments were I to create them – ie. more primitive than the stringed instruments.

Working and Music

Today's another editing day with a bit of creative writing on Advanced Adventures thrown in so I've got the music box a'playing soundtracks. The Beastmaster may only be a B movie, but its soundtrack is A++. If you don't have it, and if you like soundtracks, pick it up!

For those who will be attending, below is the information on the modules. If you're going to those conventions, you'll have an opportunity to experience the awesomeness that is AV before it comes out. I, of course, recommend such.
