A Completely New Type of Magic Item?

So last night when I was going to sleep, I think I came up with an entirely new class of magic item for rpging. I'll have to work a few concepts up and see if anyone knows of something similar in the history of rpging. I wouldn't be surprised if someone's thought of it before, but I honestly don't know of any examples. This could be very cool...
