A New Year's On The Way...

The numbers are in and I'm pleased to say that I've lost 31.35 lbs. in 2017 and exercised 122 times. I started in Jan of 2016 and am now down a total of 68 lbs. Several more years of this to go before I hit my target weight, but it now seems like an inevitability, rather than something that requires difficult and constant striving. Here's hope to all who make a New Year's Resolution to lose weight and get healthier succeed! It sure isn't easy.

On a professional note, I'm working through Arden Vul editing and my excitement with the project continues unabated. I've an Advanced Adventures manuscript or two that I should also be editing and one that I'm writing, both of which will see more attention next month. And long-term, I'm still slowly (oh so slowly) chugging away on Sorcery and Super Science! 2 using the ICONS system.

But now, back to editing, and the music of choice is the wonderful Diablo I soundtrack, released a little more than 20 years ago. (FRESH MEAT!!!!) :-)

A Month without Posts

I should update all of you since it's been a month without posts. There are two main reasons for this: 1. We moved from Ohio to Vancouver, WA, and 2. My computer fall down go boom.

The move is the big reason. Suzi (my wife) found a new job on the west coast and moving our household (and business) 2,500 miles has taken almost all of our collective attention for the past month. We're here finally and the house is 95% set up so things are back to normal on that front. Unfortunately, we've got about two weeks of travelling into (south) Portland for Suzi's orientation/on boarding and that's a terrible, terrible, drive, so I'm not going to be 100% at the helm until the next two weeks are done.

(we get to see this monster a lot while we cross the river)

But the computer issue isn't to be ignored. It's simply amazing how much time it takes to migrate from one computer to another when you've got as much computer-related stuff to move over. For instance, just finding all the damn fonts you used takes forever. Oh, and I still haven't figured out how to migrate custom brushes from Photoshop (but honestly, I haven't looked that hard after my initial frustration... there's got to be a way right? That seems like something people would want to do.).

Anyway, thought you all deserved a heads up on my silence recently. Thanks to all my business associates for their patience during this period. I appreciate it!

Expeditous Retreat Press joins TableTopLibrary

Expeditious Retreat Press is now selling digital product at a new retailer, TableTopLibrary! We're joined by other fine publishers such as Kobold Press, Frog God Games, Troll Lord Games, Green Ronin, Rite Publishing, Hero Games, Rogue Comet, Metallic Dice Games, Pacesetter Games and Simulations, Eldritch Enterprises, and Far Future Enterprises.

https://tabletoplibrary.com/is a newly-formed online store for RPG books and pdfs designed to offer both electronic versions and hard copy versions of books produced by your favorite publishers. TabletopLibrary will also offer a full slate of products and resources for other role-playing games, including Pathfinder and OSR-games. All of us will continue our own websites and stores, but TableTopLibrary offers a place to draw all these products together in one place for convenience.

At this time, by coming together as a consortium, we can offer the high-quality products we pride ourselves on; provide a one-stop shopping spot with outstanding customer service; and allow  a better experience for publishers, and more importantly, for customers . Centralized electronic book fulfillment, kickstarter fulfillment, and single-location warehousing will improve our delivery speed, accuracy, and customer service in the RPG download market.

Our reasons for setting up a consortium at this time include (1) each partner retains ownership and editorial control over the individual campaign worlds and other “intellectual property” that our fans have known and loved for years; (2) our desire to offer physically higher-quality printing, paper quality, and binding than print on demand outlets offer; and (3) the desire to continue drawing upon and increasing the vast resources of Open Game Content as opposed to other alternatives.

TableTopLibrary is committed to offering a deep and broad-based marketplace of Fifth Edition products, superior to any other online store, as well as many other game system products. We are joined in a partnership of many large publishers in this project, and expect many more to join us as time goes on. TableTopLibrary will be issuing its own press release soon, describing the advantages and the procedures involved in joining.

You can continue buying products directly from each of us, as always. But if you want to browse the whole library of Fifth Edition and other products produced under the Open Game License over the years, we’re letting you know that there’s a new online game store in town.

Big XRP Sale!

Thought I should let everyone know that I've put all of our XRP products up for sale at our website, most things at least 66% off. Suzi and I will be relocating to the Pacific Northwest and I don't think I'm going to have space to sell direct to the public anymore (alas).

2 Days left in Worldbuilding Toolkit +3

Only two more days on the Worldbuilding Toolkit +3 bundle of holding! So far we've raised around $2,000 for Doctors Without Borders and I'd love to see that pushed towards 2.5k. So if you're at all interested in worldbuilding, now's the time to take a look.

I Don't Write, or Publish, for Jaded Palates

Something's been bothering at me lately, so I thought to make a public statement.

I don't write, or publish, for jaded palates.

My only goal as a writer/publisher is to provide (#1) utility and (#2) enjoyment for gamers who are not bored, tired, or lacking in enthusiasm for the tropes of the history/rulesets in which I'm writing or publishing. If you are in any of those groups, please don't purchase what I publish as you probably will not enjoy it, and I don't want to disappoint anyone.

And, to toot my own horn, if you find yourself not enjoying what I'm currently publishing when you have before, you might want to take a breather as you may have had too much of the thing you enjoy. Because we all need time off - especially from things we deeply engage with. Go do something else you enjoy, or discover something new to enjoy. Come back when you're ready to dig back into that wonderful margherita pizza symbolic of what I'm trying to create.

I'm in this for the long haul. I have, god willing, decades more work to create.

Note to Self: Print Promotional Products during Black Friday sales

As a heads-up to the creative folks who follow/read what I babble about, I need to remember next year to prepare some promotional products (bookmarks, postcards, maybe even a calendar or poster, and some more business cards as it appears I've run out) and have them ready to print during the Black Friday sales season. I've seen quick-print rates drop 75%.

Note to Self - be ready next year. If you've printing needs as well, you might want to be ready too.

So I apparantly co-wrote an inpirational book...

Finally got my 5th Edition set (I waited to get all of the books at once) and it turns out that A Magical Medieval Society: Western Europe is listed in Appendix D of the Dungeon Master's Guide as inspirational reading.

It's not much, but it brightened my day, and that's always worth something.

My New Social Media Policy

So here's my decision to try and improve my online social experience. I'm going to relate to everyone in a sincere, kind, and conscientious manner from here on out. If I find myself undesirous to relate to someone in that manner (because I'd rather just verbally smack at them), they'll get uncircled and/or blocked (after I've felt that need several times).

If any of you find me being a jerk online from here on out, please just point it out to me and remind me that I want to be better than that. My e-mail is josephbrowning@gmail.com

I've just gotten out of good conservation with someone that I disagree with and am enjoying this feeling of having a conversation with differing opinions without the desire to smack the other person. I'm going to aim for that experience in my online social world. I'm done with the the other.

Congrats To My Dear Suzi

For about 4 years now she's been going to school while I ran XRP. This week she's finally seen the payoff for all her effort and struggle.

Call for Manuscripts

Been a while since I made a general call for manuscripts. I'm looking for OSRIC modules for our Advanced Adventures line and for Pathfinder adventures for our 1-on-1 Adventures line. Both have a word limit of 12k (can be bumped up to 16k if necessary) and pay $0.01 per word upon acceptance of the manuscript. OSRIC is for a full-sized OSR group (6-10 players) while 1-on-1 is for only a single player and a GM.

If you've never published anything before, don't worry, I honestly believe every long-term GM has at least one good publishable adventure within them and I'm glad to help bring them to the public. Our hobby should be a shared hobby.

If you want to pitch me an idea, email me at josephbrowning@gmail.com.
