Career Path Character Creation for Starfinder

So now that Starfinder is out and I can pimp the PDF I made for it wherein I gut the entire character generation process to put in an OGL-Traveller-Inspired career path version working off of my World's Apart Fantasy version of OGL-Traveller.. It's not balanced (duh!), but it sure is a hell of a lot of fun! Career Path Character Creation is only $5.

Worlds Apart now a PWYW pdf at OBS

Worlds Apart, my take on a fantasy version of Mongoose's version of Traveller, is now a Pay What You Want product at OBS.

This is my first test to see how PWYW does with a older (2.5 years) product that has a few supplements. I'm hoping it gets the game into more people's hands, I'll get tipped a bit for the core rules, and people will pick up the supplements to enhance the experience. We'll see how it goes.

Worlds Apart in Print!

I just paid for the Worlds Apart print run and it will be working its way through the channels, hopefully arriving at game stores by the end of March. If you simply can't wait, you can buy a print version from Lulu. If Lulu holds true to their standard, there should be a 20% off coupon with the code code MARBOOKS13. I'm writing this on Feb 28 so I'm guessing about the March coupon, but Lulu's been rather predicable lately.

To Many Irons In The Fire

So, like I mentioned in the last post, I've started working on something new that's consuming all my time right now. Which is not the best decision, actually, since I've got about 5 Advanced Adventures to edit and product, a new game (Worlds Apart) that I should be producing supplements for, an older game (Sorcery & Super Science) that I should be producing another supplement for (The Bean Lords of Bad Axe), and quick-and-dirty game (One Shot) that I should be producing a new adventure for because they're short and fun to write, and a new book in our original series A Magical Society: India.

But what am I doing? Following my muse instead of my brain. I do that a lot unfortunately, because you don't make a lot of money in the game industry and doing what you really want to do is one of the big perks. Were any of the things I was putting off serious money-makers, I'd bite the bullet and get them done first. But seeing as how most things are relatively comparable in terms of income production, might as well do the thing that you're most interested in doing right now.

Eventually I'll tire of the the new thing, and get a bug up my butt for Advanced Adventures and then knock out all 5 ASAP, or start jonesing to work on a few more Worlds Apart Island Gazetteers, or even keep reading and jotting notes for A Magical Society: India. India's the big one. It will probably make the most money out of all of them, but it's also far-and-away the hardest to write. Magical Society books are supposed to kick all sorts of ass, and making that occur takes a lot of effort and actual scholarship rather than just creativity.

All in all, not a bad job to have. :-)

...and just because I can....

Free Advanced Adventure Reminder

Just wanted to remind blog followers/subscribers that I'll be e-mailing out free PDF versions of an Advanced Adventure of your choice. Go to this post to learn more.

And thanks to Tenkar's Tavern for the Worlds Apart mention. I'm appreciative of anyone that helps me get the world out about the new games. Thanks!

Worlds Apart PDFs now For Sale!

I am stoked! Just finished uploading the 6 PDFs to rpgnow.com. We've got the Core Rules for $12, the free Core Rules sans illustrations, 3 island gazetteers (Awmrie, Deave, Gryce) for $2 each, and Suppliers-a list of pre-generated cargoes to keep the game moving swiftly when the PC decide to engage in a bit of unexpected trade for $3.

Thank to everyone for their patience and I hope you all check out the game! After the "losing the cover" fiasco, I created the below cover to get back to the real roots of the game. It's clear, direct, and I prefer it to the prior versions. I love the excitement I get when putting out something new, after 9 years it's still not gotten old... :-)

By Zeus, It's Done!

A voyager ship sails upon the Forever Sea...

Worlds Apart Update

I'm putting the final finishes on Worlds Apart (our fantasy game based off the OGL version of Mongoose's Traveller) and should hopefully have the PDF released in a few days. There will be a *free* version of the core rules sans art - the pay version will have all the art. I'm also going to have several small PDF accessories to the game out at release (3 island gazetteers and a grouping of pregenerated cargoes based upon island type) so there should be some additional help in getting a game up and running for those who don't require complete creative independence in designing their worlds.

I'm excited about this and it's been a long time in the works. Here's two more of the illustrations for Worlds Apart careers (rogue, scholar). I hope people enjoy!

I'm An Idiot

So I go to finish up Worlds Apart since I'm back from my vacation and it turns out that I saved over the full-sized cover file, replacing it with the small blog-friendly version. So I'm going to have to do the cover all over again. Oh well, in terms of fail, this isn't that big, just annoying.

Got the Final Art for Worlds Apart

Just got the last of the art for Worlds Apart and am in the process of setting up the files. I've got to go through another round of nit-picking (which will still leave many nits behind, I'm sure) and then the work goes on sale as a PDF with art and become available to everyone as a PDF without art.

I've also got about 4 other PDFs (one to help GMs determine trading cargo available, and three short islands gazetteers) ready to go for the Worlds Apart launch. It's getting closer and hopefully should happen within a week.

Worlds Apart Cover (Take Two)

So I got some nice feedback on the cover and I'm giving it a second go. I think this one looks more fantasy and hopefully conveys the spirit of the game better than the first.

Worlds Apart Cover

Here's what the cover's going to look like. I've just commissioned all the art, so it looks like everything's a go. The low-res preview's a bit pixilated, but the full res isn't. :-)

There Will Be a Free Version of Worlds Apart

I've been working on smaller PDF only stuff that should release when Worlds Apart comes out. Since I've decided to release a non-art version for free, I'm trying to have some $2 PDF expansions out there to entice some people into forking over their hard-earned cash even if they only get the non-art version of the Worlds Apart core book (which is 96 pages, btw). :-)

So far I have a three PDFs done and am working the 4th. I hope to have 6 or 7 by the time Worlds Apart comes out in August or September, 2012.

Coconuts!

I'm working on an adventure for Worlds Apart and that's the title: Coconuts! A rather crazy idea came to me one night right before I went to sleep and I had to follow up on it. Hopefully it should be done when the core rules come out so that people can jump right into the game.

Worlds Apart: DONE!

Finally, I've got the layout done (just the credits and the cover left) and will begin commissioning art. It's been a long-time coming, and boy am I glad that it's finally done. :-)

Now, to create an adventure and/or some supplements for the game so when it comes out people will have something to jump right into.

Worlds Apart update

Worlds Apart is a little more than halfway laid out. It's proving to be a beast with all its tables. I'm very happy with the results so far. Now, back to the grindstone.

Worlds Apart Sample (pages 2-35)

I've entered the dungeon known as "Layout" and I've gotten to the 35th page! So far it looks like Worlds Apart is going to be around 100 or so pages. Here's a full-spread sample I've uploaded to ScribD for you all so you can see what's going on. There's no art yet, of course.

Worlds Apart Preview

I'm really looking forward to the completed work.
