Tome of Tomes

Just uploaded the next 8 tomes to my Tome of Tomes Patreon project and I've now put out 4 updates for a total of 29 new books. I'd like to again publicly thank those kind benefactors and hope that others will join them!

Regardless, the tome goodness will flow... :-)

The Pattern of Knowledge
Race: Human
Dimensions: 24x24x6
Weight: 35 lbs.
Materials: Leather-bound, woodboard, parchment, brass corners and clasps
Rarity: Very rare
Fields of Study:  Supernatural & unusual
Special Knowledge Categories: Dweomercraeft
Value: 750 gp

This lavishly illustrated tome provides detailed material instruction for the creation of a mosaic of tutelage. The mosaic may act as a tutor for characters looking to advance in level. The ritual takes three months, costs roughly 750gp in fine glass and special mortar mix, and requires the work of a master glazier. As the master glazier slowly works, a spellcaster of at least 6th-level and 12 spellcasting assistants of at least 1st-level are required at all times.

Malevolent & Benign PDF for only $3!

OK folks, I'm running a deep (85% off) sale on the PDF of Malevolent and Benign. It's an OSR monster book (for OSRIC) that contains over 150 critters suitable for pretty much any campaign. For ease of use, I also put in 4 appendices: A for 6 new magic items associated with some new critters; B for a list of monsters by level, C for a list of monsters by rarity, and D for a list of monsters by terrain type. This will make fleshing out your custom encounter tables a breeze.

Did I mention it's got a cool Peter Mullen cover featuring nine of the critters (including two of my favs, the skyshark and the canopy kraken) contained within? All in all it's a great book, in my unsurprising opinion, and now's the time to pick it up. The sale ends May 1st, 2015.

Tome of Tomes Patreon Project Hits Next Milestone!

I'm pleased to say that my little Patreon Tome of Tomes project has hit its 3rd Milestone! I'm now creating 8 new Tome of Tomes volumes twice monthly because of the kind support of my Patreons. So, with thanks to them, here's the next in the series...

The Portrait
Author: Noria Scora
Race: Unknown
Dimensions: 16x10x6
Weight: 22 lbs.
Materials: Leather-bound, woodboard, parchment
Rarity: Unique
Fields of Study:  Supernatural & unusual
Special Knowledge Categories: Dweomercraeft
Value: 5,000 gp

This evil work gives detailed instructions for a six-month-long process creating a portrait of longevity. This painting renders the portrayed immortal as long as the painting remains undamaged. Unfortunately, the creature portrayed moves 1 step towards Chaotic Evil every decade. It is believed that Noria Scora is an anagram for the Demon Prince that first created the work.

The ritual requires a spellcaster of at least 7th-level and four 4th-level (or greater) spellcasting assistants. During the process, a painter of no mean skill paints a portrait of the subject. At the culmination of the ritual, the painter is killed and his or her blood spread upon the painting which absorbs it when placed in the rays of a full moon.

Tome of Tomes

Below is the first of several tomes that I'm terming Ritual Tomes. They contain instructions and methodology to enact some magical effect after a significant period of effort.

The Scapegoat
Author: Ashem Inshar
Race: Human
Dimensions: 16x10x4
Weight: 15 lbs.
Materials: Leather-bound, woodboard, parchment
Rarity: Rare
Fields of Study:  Supernatural & unusual
Special Knowledge Categories: Dweomercraeft
Value: 500 gp

The Scapegoat provides detailed instructions on a four-month-long process of creating a scapegoat, a goat that when sent into the wilderness acts like a mass atonement spell for the entire community that supports those engaged in the ritual. Completing the ritual requires a Cleric of at least 3rd-level and 4 assistant Clerics of at least 1st-level.

Tome of Tomes

Just posted the next 7 tomes over at my Patreon page and am again thankful for everyone's support. If you really enjoy the series and decide to tip in $1 per bunch (currently 7 tomes in 2 bunches per month) I'd be very happy. If not, I'll keep posting them as I go and you can enjoy anyway! The below tome is the last in the Alchemy series I put up last month: next up are a series of what I'm calling ritual tomes...

Practical Alchemy
Author: Unknown
Race: Unknown
Dimensions: 16x16x1
Weight: 5 lbs.
Materials: Leather-bound, woodboard, parchment
Rarity: Rare
Fields of Study: Physical universe
Special Knowledge Categories: Chemistry
Value: 75 gp

Practical Alchemy is a rare work in the exoteric field: clear, concise, diagrammed, and reproducible. The unknown author walks the reader through the basic alchemical processes of calcination, distillation, fermentation, fixation, and sublimation. The material within is too basic for any well-trained alchemist, but for those unenlightened, it provides a rapid spring-board into the study.

Tome of Tomes

Another in the Patreon-supported series...

Rasāyana
Author: Maheswar Shukla
Race: Human
Dimensions: 16x16x5
Weight: 25 lbs.
Materials: Rakshasa hide-bound, woodboard, vellum, silver corners and clasps
Rarity: Unique
Fields of Study: Humankind, physical universe, supernatural & unusual
Special Knowledge Categories: Biology, chemistry, medicine
Value: 3,750 gp

The Rasāyana by the legendarily-immortal Shukla contains exquisitely explicit guidance towards transforming the human body from mortal to immortal through an extremely difficult mixture of alchemy, yoga, and esoteric herbal medicine. If one can translate the text, and understand and decrypt it (INT 14+, WIS 16+), a recipe for longevity potions lies within. This specific potion, when coupled with yogic discipline, allows the imbiber to ignore the cumulative 1% error rate common with other potions.

Tome of Tomes - 1st month of Patreon Completed!

Happy to say that I delivered 14 new tomes to my Patreons this month as promised and am already working on the next 14. Below is another in the series thanks to their kind generosity...

Outer Alchemy (incomplete)
Author: Li Sheng
Race: Human
Dimensions: 6x8x1.5
Weight: 1 lbs.
Materials: Stitch bound, xuan paper
Rarity: Very rare
Fields of Study: Physical universe
Special Knowledge Categories: Chemistry
Value: 1,250 gp

Composed of 7 stitch bound, xuan paper booklets joined by a silk ribbon, this collection of Outer Alchemy is incomplete. The introduction indicates this collection is the first 7 of 108 volumes. Almost impossible to find outside of the far eastern lands, these first 7 volumes cover alchemical manipulations of mercury, sulfur, lead, arsenic, cinnabar, realgar, and silver. That is if one can translate them, of course.
